Read about some of the key projects being delivered as part of the Swansea Regeneration Area.

This programme was designed to address key social issues and capitalise on opportunities that exist in Swansea.

Swansea Regeneration Area was created in early 2009 and set out a shared vision for Swansea. The programme was delivered in Partnership with the local authority, private & third sector partners.

The Regeneration Area covered a population of around 95,000 across approximately 15.5 square miles. We provided £16m to support this regeneration area which was used to draw down European Union Convergence funding. £6.7m of this was essential match funding to the £32m European Regional Development Fund Waterfront City Bid by City & County of Swansea.

The work undertaken in the Swansea Regeneration Area fell into five key themes:

  • cohesive communities
  • providing opportunities for all
  • regional capital
  • sustainable wealth generation
  • housing and the environment.

Our new regeneration framework Vibrant and Viable Places is now in operation.
