Paying for care
We are establishing a fairer, sustainable system for paying for social care.
Wales has a higher proportion of older people with lower levels of financial means compared to the rest of the UK. We are introducing changes to the way people pay for their care and support which takes account of this.
In April 2011 we introduced a limit on the amount councils can charge for all the non-residential care a person receives. From April 2017 we are increasing the level of capital a person in residential care can keep without this being used to pay for their care.
