Alison Strode

Supporting the Welsh Government with professional advice on therapies.

Alison Strode is the Chief Therapy Adviser for Wales and took up this role in April 2011. Alison qualified as a podiatrist from the Cardiff School of Podiatry in 1979. She has had an extensive career in the NHS. Prior to taking up this post she worked in a workforce modernisation role, including a project with the four UK Departments of Health to produce a competence based career framework for allied health professions.

Her role is to provide expert, impartial professional advice relating to the therapy disciplines, including:

  • arts therapies
  • chiropody/podiatry
  • dietetics
  • occupational therapy
  • orthoptics
  • physiotherapy
  • speech and language therapy
  • Wheelchair services.

The Chief Therapy adviser contributes to the development of Welsh Government policies/strategies regarding the therapy professions and their services. This includes working with:

  • policy divisions across Welsh Government
  • UK Health Departments
  • Welsh Local Health Boards and Trusts.

They provide professional sponsorship for the Welsh Therapies Advisory Committee (WTAC) and also represents the interests of the Welsh Government on appropriate All Wales or UK consultative committees/working parties.
