European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) is the European fund established to provide support for adapting to the Common Fisheries Policy.

Measures for the conservation and sustainable exploitation of marine biological resources under the Common Fisheries Policy

Support is available for:

  • developing and monitoring the technical and administrative means to design and implement eligible conservation measures
  • stakeholder participation to design and implement eligible conservation measures
  • co-operation between Member States to achieve the objectives of eligible conservation measures.

Innovation linked to conservation of marine biological resources

Support is available for developing or introducing new technical or organisational knowledge that:

  • reduces the impact of fishing activities on the environment
  • achieves a more sustainable use of marine biological resources and coexistence with protected predators.

Protection and restoration of marine biodiversity and ecosystems, and inland aquatic flora and fauna

Support is available for:

  • the collection of waste by fishermen from the sea
  • the management or conservation of marine biological resources
  • constructing, installing or modernising facilities to protect and enhance marine and inland aquatic fauna and flora
  • preparing protection and management plans, related to fishery activities, for NATURA 2000 sites and spatial protected areas
  • managing, restoring and monitoring marine protected areas and the rehabilitation of inland wasters, including NATURA 2000 sites
  • increasing environmental awareness relating to marine biodiversity
  • maintaining and enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Grant Amounts

The amount of grant offered would relate to individual circumstances and would always be the minimum amount necessary to allow the project to go ahead, subject to a minimum of £2,400.

Applications will not be accepted from organisations, businesses or individuals who:

  • have been convicted of fraud under the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) or the EMFF
  • have been convicted of a ‘serious infringement’ or fraud in the 12 months before applying.
