The EMFF offers support for the following.

Innovation in fisheries

Support is available for developing or introducing:

  • New or substantially improved products or equipment
  • new or improved processes and techniques
  • new or improved management and organisation systems, including at the level of processing and marketing.

Advisory services to improve the overall performance and competitiveness of fisheries operators

Support is available for:

  • Feasibility studies and advisory services that assess the viability of fisheries projects potentially eligible for EMFF support
  • the provision of professional advice on environmental sustainability and on business and marketing strategies.

Partnerships between scientists and fishermen

Support is available for activities that transfer knowledge and increase collaboration between scientists and the commercial fishing sector.  Support can cover:

  • The creation of networks, partnership agreements or associations between scientific bodies and fishermen and 
  • the activities carried out by these networks, partnership agreements, or associations; including data collection and management, studies, pilot projects, dissemination of knowledge and research results, seminars and best practice.

The development, management and monitoring of systems for allocating fishing opportunities

Support is available for the monitoring, evaluation and management of quota systems affected by Common Fisheries Policy reform, with funding available for trials or pilots to test new methods of quota management.

Grant Amounts

The amount of grant offered would relate to individual circumstances and would always be the minimum amount necessary to allow the project to go ahead, subject to a minimum of £2,400.

Applications will not be accepted from organisations, businesses or individuals who:

  • Have been convicted of fraud under the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) or the EMFF
  • have been convicted of a ‘serious infringement’ or fraud in the 12 months before applying.
