Animal Welfare Act 2006

The Act brings together and modernises welfare legislation relating to farmed and non-farmed animals, some of which dates from 1911.

The Act was implemented in Wales on 27th March 2007, allowing the Welsh Government to consider pet animal welfare for the first time. It introduces a "duty of care" on owners and keepers of pet, farm and captive wild animals. This is to ensure the welfare of the animals in their care.
