Cered, Ceredigion Language Initiative and Theatr Felinfach are recruiting students for the Community Leadership Academy in Ceredigion that will be starting in October. The course provides an intensive course for young adults with the aim of creating young leaders in the County's communities. The closing date for applications is 22nd September.

The Community Leadership Academy was established by Cered, the Ceredigion Language Initiative, and Theatr Felinfach. The course was launched in 2016 following a successful application for support through Cynnal y Cardi.

This project has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

The Leadership Academy offers an intensive leadership course for Welsh speaking young adults by providing the opportunity to develop leadership skills in the community and their locality and motivate them to apply themselves to benefit the community, locality and to tackle future community challenges.

Cered Manager, Lynsey Thomas, said,

"The course offers training sessions during the year and all students are allocated a personal mentor. The students have the opportunity to put their knowledge, skills and new attitudes to work by developing a local enterprise or project, and this celebration was an opportunity to showcase our students’ projects."

A student who has benefited from the course is Caryl Griffiths. Her project is to launch a local Children's Choir in the Llangrannog area, called Côr Plant y Bryn. She said,

"Upon returning to my locality after spending three years of studying music and working as a teaching assistant in London, what stood out for me was the incredible opportunities that the children receive on their doorstep. I feel, although I had a great education and opportunities during my childhood in Penbryn, I had to travel at least half an hour to receive lessons. This was the main reason for my application for this course - I want to make a difference in my neighborhood. After receiving support and essential information from the several experienced mentors who help us along our journey on the course, I am very excited to be able to say that I can reach my goal."

Caryl added,

"Being a student on the Community Leadership Academy course really has been a revelation and I've learned so much in my project. But the biggest thing I've learned from the whole experience is that you shouldn’t wait for anyone else to make the difference you want to see in your neighborhood, never think you are too young. Make the difference yourself - GO FOR IT!"

The Academi is now calling for young people aged betwenn 18-30, who live in Ceredigion, to apply to follow the Community Leadership course.  The Training will consist of five day sessions between October 2017 and May 2018, and students will be expected to attend the five day schedules together with completing a community project.  The training will start with a residential course in Cardiff from 13-15 October 2017. The follow-up sessions will take place on 4/11/17, 25/11/17 and 27/01/18.

There are limited places available. We will accept applications until 22nd September 2017. Applications should be made via CV, letter or video to:
