REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals) is the new legal framework regulating the marketing and use of chemicals in Europe.

Welsh businesses are strongly advised to visit the Competent Authority website to see how they are likely to be affected, and what they must do to fulfil their REACH responsibilities.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) acts in consultation with the Devolved Administrations as the lead UK Government Department with responsibility for chemicals legislation. The Hazardous Substances Advisory Committee (external link), Chemicals Stakeholder Forum (external link), Environment Agency (external link) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) (external link) provide expert advice to Defra and Welsh Government on issues relating to chemicals.
