Air Quality Expert Group – Independent Expert Opinion on Particle Sources within the Port Talbot Area and impact on Particulate Matter levels

Poor air quality can affect the health of people, animals and plants.
The Air Quality Expert Group (AQEG) is an advisory group that provides independent scientific advice on air quality. It gives advice on levels, sources and types of air pollutants in the UK. It does not advise on health impacts or air quality standards.

We and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) asked AQEG for independent expert opinion on “how the evidence base for different particle sources and the effects of these on Particulate Matter levels in the Port Talbot area can be improved”.

An open session was held in Port Talbot in November 2010. Interested people attended, gave evidence and raised questions on local air quality problems.

The report following this session and follow up meetings can be found on the Defra website.
