The Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs has written to the Chair of the Marine Energy Task and Finish Group, and all its members to thank them and commend them all for their work into the report and its recommendations. As we have now received the Final Report, the Marine Energy Task and Finish Group is formally concluded. The letter to the Chair includes the overarching response of the Welsh Government to the recommendations.

As highlighted in Lesley Griffiths AM, Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs’ oral statement on energy on 6th December 2016, Marine Energy remains a priority policy area for this Government.

Welsh Government will continue to consider this Report and its recommendations on a cross-Government basis and will now work with the newly established Marine Energy Wales Group to take these recommendations forward. This Report is already helping inform policy development and delivery but it will  also provide a solid foundation upon which future work, action and collaboration can be taken forward. We need to ensure decisions are based on sound evidence but also grasp this opportunity with both hands as Wales can continue to be a global leader in this field.
