We commissioned Halcrow Group Ltd to consider the opportunities and limits to growing the wave and tidal energy industry in Wales.

This study also identified how potential sites could be developed to support a marine energy industry in Wales.

This follows on from our assessment of the wave and tidal energy available off the Welsh coast.

The study was delivered over two Stages.

Stage A - industry engagement and development concept

During stage A, Halcrow Group spoke to stakeholders to find out the needs of the marine energy industry. This ensured that the recommendations were based on industry requirements. The Development Concept generated during Stage A went forward into stage B.

The report for this stage can be seen at the bottom of this page.

Stage B – final report

In the second phase Halcrow Group identified the main areas in Welsh waters of interest to the marine energy industry. They also developed a brief assessment of cost, limits and risks to development. This report includes the cost estimates and some feasibility work in a business case.

The summary of the stage B report can be seen below.
