Welsh Ministers have approved legislation requiring the compulsory microchipping of all dogs in Wales from April 2016.

The Microchipping of Dogs (Wales) Regulations 2015 (external link) will come into force on 6 April 2016, in line with the date announced for compulsory microchipping in England and Scotland.

It is firmly believed that compulsory microchipping will have a positive impact in Wales as the traceability of all dogs back to their owners and ultimately back to the breeders will help to encourage more responsible ownership.

If you have any questions about microchipping please speak to your vet or pet care specialist.
