Support for young people to enter self-employment

New Jobs Growth Wales figures from the Welsh Government show the EU-backed programme has now helped 27% of young people who have taken part in the programme onto an apprenticeship

The Young Entrepreneur Bursary is part of our Jobs Growth Wales programme and has been developed to support start-up ideas from young people.

The discretionary bursary is £6,000 paid over a four month period. Please note that this grant is taxable and must be entered into the business account as ‘income’.


To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must be:

  • between the ages of 16-24 at the time of applying for the award and fall into the Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) category
  • registered and receiving one to one business advice and mentoring through an approved business support provider
  • supported with a business plan and show that the business is sustainable.

The bursary is intended for businesses that have not started trading and are due to start their business within two months of the award being approved.
