This document provides guidance on the provision of financial education for 7 to 19-year olds in Wales in schools and colleges.

We are fully committed to tackling financial exclusion. We have ensured that financial education is embedded in the revised school curriculum, introduced in maintained schools in Wales from September 2008.

Through provision of support to improve skills, knowledge and understanding of financial matters, young people will be better able to manage their finances and make informed decisions.

The guidance is provided for governing bodies, senior management teams and practitioners in primary, secondary and special schools and colleges, with responsibility for the planning and delivery of aspects of financial education. The document:

  • identifies opportunities for the provision of financial education in the curriculum;
  • provides guidance on learning and teaching strategies; and
  • includes advice on teaching resources and on working with partners in developing and delivering a planned approach to the provision of financial education.
