In March 2017, the Minister for Lifelong Learning and Welsh Language announced that Aled Roberts would undertake a rapid review of the 2017-20 Welsh in Education Strategic Plans.

Local authorities have a statutory duty to prepare and submit Welsh in Education Strategic Plans to Welsh Ministers for their consideration. Plans must set challenging targets for developing Welsh-medium education in their areas.

The Minister for Lifelong Learning and the Welsh Language has made it clear he expects strong and ambitious plans.  The growth of Welsh-medium education will be one of the key drivers for achieving a million Welsh speakers by 2050.

The review provides key findings and recommendations for the Welsh in Education Strategic Plans.

The high level rapid review is published today and a formal response to the recommendations will be made in due course.
