Facilities for future generations: a blueprint for sport and active recreation facilities in Wales

Sport Wales have developed this national guidance to support our campaign to increase participation in sport and physical activity.

The Blueprint is divided into 3 parts:

  • a clear and robust all-Wales vision for a modern, fit for purpose, inclusive and sustainable infrastructure
  • a ‘Fit for the Future Vision, Framework and Guidance’ setting out the challenges facing providers, identifying the priorities for action and providing guidance to help inform future decision making
  • ‘bold’ recommendations, demanding action at every level, and by the wide range of organisations involved in the planning, provision and management of facilities.

The main focus is to support local authority providers to make the right decisions about their sports and leisure facilities.

The Blueprint has been developed in consultation with key partners, including:

  • Local Authorities
  • Welsh Local Government Association
  • National Governing Bodies of Sport
  • Natural Resources Wales
  • Further and Higher Education.

Sport Wales will be encouraging their partners to use this guidance for decision making on the future of existing facilities. It should also be used for plans to invest in new facilities in community or education environments.
