This toolkit supports the delivery of the Foundation Phase curriculum in museums, archives and libraries.

The Foundation Phase is a curriculum for 3-7 year-olds and is based on the needs of the individual child. It is a play-based curriculum which places emphasis on learning through experience and use of the outdoors.

Through the Foundation Phase the children are able to learn by taking part in practical activities that are fun and enjoyable. They are also gaining first hand experiences through play and active involvement that enables them to be creative, imaginative and have fun whilst learning.

How to use this toolkit

The toolkit is designed to support museums, archives and libraries in developing ideas for visits. The methods and ideas can be adapted, and users are encouraged to “dip and try” from the menu of activities as appropriate.
