Creative learning through the arts

An action plan for Wales seeks to improve attainment through creativity, increase and improve arts experiences in schools, and support teachers and arts practitioners in developing their skills.
Our response to the independent report by Professor Dai Smith.
Our vision is to have high expectations for all learners, regardless of their socio-economic background, and to ensure that they have an equal chance of achieving those expectations.

We want to enable children and young people to have the opportunity to engage in arts and cultural activities.

We want to align education and creativity to benefit young people and teachers. We and the Arts Council for Wales are working together to deliver our action plan.

Creative Learning Plan

Alongside the Arts Council for Wales we have developed a creative learning plan.

There are 2 strands to the plan that the Arts Council for Wales lead on:

  1. The Lead Creative Schools scheme
The Lead Creative Schools scheme is a schools improvement initiative aiming to help you to create a bespoke programme to help you with learning challenges you may be facing.

  2. The All-Wales Arts and Education Programme
This programme provides hands-on help from artists and creative organisations who come into your school environment.
For more information on this scheme visit: All-Wales Arts and Education Programme (external link).

Go and See

This scheme encourages schools to take young people out to experience arts and cultural activities. A school can apply for up to £1,000 and can help to cover transport, entry costs and refreshments: Go and See scheme (external link).

Creative Collaborations

The purpose of this scheme is to challenge schools and arts, cultural and heritage organisations to work together to deliver unique and innovative projects. You can apply for up to £25,000: Creative Collaborations (external link).

Creative Learning Zone

Our Creative Learning Zone (external link) is an interactive portal that we have designed to encourage collaboration between the education and arts, culture and heritage sectors. It also hosts digital resources for the classroom and for teacher training as well as case studies, latest news and upcoming events.
