The survey is a national consumer survey measuring the volume and value of overnight trips taken by the residents of Great Britain.

This report includes year to date figures for January to September 2017 and 2016, as well as rolling averages for the 12 month periods ending September 2017 and 2016.

During January to September 2017 there were 7.33 million overnight trips by British residents to Wales, staying a total of 25.72 million nights with a related expenditure of £1,361 million.

The annual report is jointly sponsored by the Welsh Government, VisitEngland and VisitScotland. It provides analysis across all of Great Britain.

Since 2016 there have been changes to the data processing system of the Great Britain Tourism Survey. This document explains what these changes are, why they were made, how this affects the data collected as well as what implications this has when comparing data from 2016 onwards with previously published figures.
