Welsh Government advertises for first National Adviser to tackle Violence against Women

This press release was published under the 2011 - 2016 Welsh government

The Welsh Government is seeking candidates to become the first National Adviser to tackle Violence against Women and other forms of Gender-based Violence, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence.
Thursday 14 May 2015

The National Adviser will work independently of Ministers to provide a different perspective on policy and legislation. The post-holder will provide high profile leadership and work with stakeholders to identify best practice and improve services.

The post was established in the ground-breaking Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Act 2015.
Public Services Minister Leighton Andrews said:

“Appointing an independent National Adviser is a key part of implementing the Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Act 2015. It is an example of how Wales is leading the way in tackling these problems in our society.

“The National Adviser will be an expert in the field and will act as a critical friend to help strengthen the strategic leadership and accountability for gender-based violence, domestic abuse and sexual violence throughout Wales. An important part of this will be working with victims, survivors and service providers to develop policy and services.

“I look forward to working with the successful applicant to drive improvements across the public and third sector on these issues.“
