Housing help for members of Armed Forces

Plans to ensure former members of the Armed Forces community are supported to find suitable accommodation and avoid homelessness go out to consultation today.
Thursday 15 September 2016

Communities Secretary Carl Sargeant launched a consultation on the Housing Pathway for Ex-Serving Personnel at the Armed Forces Covenant Champions Conference in Cardiff.

The aim of the Pathway is to provide advice to members of the Services, who are due to be discharged, on the support available to enable them to meet their housing needs. It will also provide advice to former members of the Services who have become or are at risk of homelessness.

Carl Sargeant said:

"In recognition of their service, I believe that every former member of the Armed Forces should be helped, if  required, to find suitable accommodation.

"One of the key concerns of members on leaving the Services is accommodation and where to find help. I hope the introduction of the Pathway will enable veterans and their families to make an informed choice as to which option is most appropriate for them."

The Cabinet Secretary also launched a refreshed Package of Support for veterans and their families as well as a separate document for serving personnel and their families called Welcome to Wales.

The Package of Support for ex-Service personnel and their families sets out the Welsh Government’s ongoing commitment to the Armed Forces community in Wales on devolved matters while the Welcome to Wales document is targeted towards serving Armed Forces personnel and their families, with the intention of providing information on access to services and support when settling in Wales.
