History has been made – First Minister sends congratulations to Welsh team ahead of Andorra game

First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, has congratulated the Welsh football team following their historic Euro 2016 qualification.

Ahead of tonight's game against Andorra, he hailed the Welsh team's success as "one of the proudest moments" in the nation's sporting history and congratulated the team on a truly remarkable campaign.

The First Minister said:

“After years of heartache and near misses, it’s been thrilling to watch the team navigate their way through a tough group and qualify automatically for the European Championships next year with a game to spare.

“This is the culmination of years of hard work from all involved with Welsh football and special praise to Chris for the fantastic way he has led the team, having entered the job under such difficult circumstances. Players, management, FAW and not forgetting the 12th man, the Welsh fans ,have made this campaign one of the proudest sporting successes in our history.

“Next year’s tournament will be a defining moment for Wales. Euro 2016 won’t know what’s hit it.”
