Funding approved for Ysgol Newydd Margam

Funding for a new £37m all-through school in Margam has been approved by Education Secretary, Kirsty Williams.

The new 3-16 school will accommodate 1,455 pupils and replace Dyffryn Comprehensive and Groes Primary schools on the Dyffryn Upper School site in Margam.

Neath Port Talbot local authority have been awarded up to £19.08 million against a total project cost of £37.35 million. 

Cabinet Secretary for Education Kirsty Williams said: 

“The proposed development will provide a new flagship, sustainable teaching facility for the area and create a new focus for the local community.

“It will improve accessibility and provide a landmark building which will regenerate the site and provide a 21st Century school in every sense.

“We will continue to raise school standards and enhance the quality of the learning environment by building the right schools in right places.”

Funding has been allocated as part of the 21st Century Schools and Education Programme, a unique collaboration between the Welsh Government, the Welsh Local Government Association and local authorities with the aim of creating a generation of 21st century schools in Wales.
