Friday 11 December 2015

During a visit to its current training space, the Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Ken Skates, announced the £24,000 sponsorship deal which means that NoFit State is able to accept an invitation by St. Ann’s to stage the US premier of its show BIANCO. It will also be the first time the Cardiff based company, which celebrates its 30th anniversary next year [2016], has appeared in the States.

In addition to announcing the funding deal the Deputy Minister also met with some of the BIANCO performing company and took part in a flying-trapeze act.

Speaking ahead of his visit Mr Skates said:

“NoFit State is another great example of how Wales’ creative industries are drawing global attention and taking centre stage."

“As one of our priority sectors, we want to establish Wales as an international centre of creative excellence and are committed to nurturing and further supporting environments from which more creative people, creative ideas and creative businesses can emerge and flourish."

"Being invited to such a prestigious venue to perform is an incredible achievement for NoFit State and I am delighted our support has made it possible for this talented company to attend. Our sponsorship of the month-long residency of NoFit State Circus in Brooklyn will help to further raise the profile of Wales and our creative industries in the US.”

NoFit State is the UK’s leading large-scale contemporary circus company, producing professional touring productions and a wide variety of community, training, and education projects for people of all ages.

Over the last ten years NoFit State's touring productions have visited 15 different countries, played to audiences of over 250,000, have been critically acclaimed and won numerous prestigious international arts awards.

Alison Woods, NoFit State’s Executive Director added:

“We are absolutely delighted that the Welsh Government is supporting such an extraordinary opportunity for NoFit State in New York and will enable us to raise the profile of Welsh culture on the international stage.”
