Enterprise Zone Boundaries

  • Snowdonia Enterprise Zone includes the site of the former Trawsfynydd power station and adjoining land, as well as Llanbedr Airfield, just ten miles from the Trawsfynydd site. Llanbedr Airfield Estates has a long lease on the airfield site which already accommodates a number of businesses at the airfield. The long term strategic vision for Llanbedr is linked to the Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) sector.
  • Haven Waterway Enterprise Zone includes Blackbridge, Haverfordwest Airport, Honeyborough Industrial Estate, Murco, Pembroke Port, RWE, South Hook, Thornton Industrial Estate, Valero and Waterston and Pembrokeshire Science and Technology Park [including Waterloo and London Road].

Mrs Hart said:

“Whilst the focus of Snowdonia Enterprise Zone – especially the Trawsfynydd site - is the ICT and Energy and Environment sectors, a unique selling point for the Zone is the skills of the workforce. Llanbedr very much aligns with this skills agenda and I am pleased to include Llanbedr Airfield as part of the Snowdonia Enterprise Zone.

“Not only does this important facility have the capacity to significantly increase Wales' UAS capability but also to accommodate both inward investing and indigenous businesses and play a pivotal role in the local economy, maximising the skills associated with the Trawsfynydd site.”

“I am also pleased to announce that a number of key business sites are to be included within the Haven Waterway Enterprise Zone to support the creation and expansion of indigenous businesses. This Zone is of strategic importance and has a unique offering, with around 30% of the UK's energy supplies coming in via Pembrokeshire. The Zones offers the opportunity to build on existing and potential new energy sites and support SMEs with growth potential.”

The news has been welcomed by the chairs of both Enterprise Zones.

John Idris Jones, Chair of Snowdonia Enterprise Zone, said:

"I am delighted that the Minister has today announced the boundary of the Snowdonia Enterprise Zone to include Llanbedr airfield. This large site offers opportunity to accommodate indigenous and inward investment opportunities from within the UAS and broader sectors.

“It has the potential to help stimulate new jobs in the area to utilise the skills of the local workforce, and to further promote economic growth in the local economy.  The Board looks forward to continuing to work with the Minister and other partners to ensure that the Enterprise Zone makes the most of today's announcements, including the introduction of the business rate scheme."

Nick Bourne, Chair of the Haven Waterway Enterprise said:

“I am delighted that the boundary for the Haven Waterway Enterprise Zone has been agreed and includes the immediate Haven area and surrounding areas of Honeyborough, Thornton and Haverfordwest Airport.

“As a Board we look forward to continuing our work with key partners and stakeholders in the area. The Business Rate Scheme is excellent news for Start ups and SME's in the Haven Waterway Enterprise Zone and the boundary will allow the Scheme to operate on a wide basis. This financial lever will be a boost to businesses looking to create jobs and opportunities in the Haven.”
