Devolution across the UK

The devolution settlements are different in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland; this is called asymmetrical devolution.

The Welsh Government is held to account by the National Assembly for Wales, which is the devolved legislature in Wales that passes legislation in the form of Assembly Acts.  More information can be found on the National Assembly for Wales web site.

The Wales Office is responsible for Welsh affairs within the UK Government.  More information about the Wales Office’s role can be found on the Wales Office web site.  The Cabinet Office is responsible within the UK Government for devolution policy and inter-governmental relations across the UK.

More information about government in Northern Ireland can be found on the Northern Ireland Executive’s web site and the web site of the Northern Ireland Office in the UK Government.

More information about government in Scotland can be found on the Scottish Government’s web site and the web site of the Scotland Office in the UK Government.
