Written Statement  - Funding streams for businesses during the trial closure of junction 41 of the M4

Edwina Hart, Minister for Economy, Science and Transport

Following a commitment made in Plenary on 2 April 2014, I am providing a written statement on funding streams for businesses during the trial closure of junction 41 of the M4.

Determining not only the benefits but also any adverse effects remains a key priority of the trial. That is why, after careful consideration and taking into account concerns, we amended the trial approach as announced last week.

In addition, we continue to monitor foot fall and parking within the area to ensure any impact can be addressed appropriately through existing open Business Rates schemes such as the Wales Retail Relief and also further enhancements that may be required, for example, the Enhanced Local Need Scheme.

Businesses can also access the broad range of information, support and advice available from the Welsh Government, wider Public and Private and third sectors in Wales by contacting Business Wales on 03000 60 3000 or via www.business.wales.gov.uk. We will also investigate arranging a drop in “Business Wales surgery” at a suitable location in Port Talbot.
